Unit 3 I'm not feeling well

LESSON 6 You'll get better soon

Jessica: Hi, you're back, Linda. It's so nice to see you in class.

Linda: Hi, Jessy. I'm happy to see you, too.

Jessica: How are you? Are you feeling better now?

Linda: I still have a temperature, but it's not that serious.

Jessica: That's normal after having a fever. I think you will be all right in several days.

Linda: I hope so. I'm sick and tired of taking bitter medicine.

Jessica: I'm sure you won't have to take it anymore in a few days.

Linda: I'm a little worried about the class I missed. I heard there was a quiz.

Jessica: You don't need to worry about that. I told Ms. White you had a fever, and she said you can take the quiz later.

Linda: Thank you so much, Jessy.

It's so nice to see you...

Linda: Hi, Jessy. I'm happy to see you, too.

Jessica: How are you? Are you feeling better now?

  • 重点Are you feeling better?

Linda: I still have a temperature, but it's not that serious.

  • 重点have a temperature 表示"发烧";not that + 形容词 表示"没那么……",比 not very 口语感更强。

Jessica: That's normal after having a fever. I think you will be all right in several days.

  • 重点be all right 表示"没事、好起来";in several days 表示"几天后"。

Linda: I hope so. I'm sick and tired of taking bitter medicine.

  • 重点I hope so. 是对积极预测的简短回应;be sick and tired of doing sth.

Jessica: I'm sure you won't have to take it anymore in a few days.

Linda: I'm a little worried about the class I missed. I heard there was a quiz.

  • 重点be worried about 表示"担心……";the class I missed 是省略关系代词的定语从句(= the class that/which I missed);take/have a quiz 表示"做小测验"。

Jessica: You don't need to worry about that. I told Ms. White you had a fever, and she said you can take the quiz later.

Linda: Thank you so much, Jessy.

+ anymore

    I don't like shopping anymore.
We don't play computer games anymore.
She doesn't want to do this work anymore.
You won't have to take it anymore in a few days.

I no longer like shopping.
  • not ... any longer —— 与 not ... anymore 几乎可互换,稍正式

Are you feeling better now? Are you feeling better now?
You'll be all right (soon). I think you'll be all right in a few days.
I'm sure you won't have to ...我相信你不用再……I'm sure you won't have to stay home anymore.
You don't need to worry about ...你不必担心……You don't need to worry about the quiz.
(be) sick and tired of ...受够了……I'm sick and tired of taking medicine.

Question: Tell me about a time when a classmate helped you after you missed school due to illness.

She asked me if I was feeling better, and I told her I still had a temperature, but it was not that serious. She said I would be all right in a few days, and I wouldn't have to take the bitter medicine anymore. I was a little worried about the quiz I missed, but Jessy had already told the teacher, and the teacher let me take the quiz later. I felt very lucky to have such a thoughtful friend.
